    Ampal X H-D "MERT" Strapback - $ 48.00

In 1969, Mert Lawwill won the Grand National Championship, on the Harley-Davidson factory 1969 KR750 race bike.  In 1970, Bruce Brown travelled with Mert as he tried to defend his title, which became one of the main stories in On Any Sunday.  Like the Endless Summer, the movie continues to be hugely influential to this day and my favorite motorcycle movie.  The shots of Mert, Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen riding cow trails in Holister and of course Mert sliding around the flat track are some of the most iconic in motorcycle history.

The idea for this hat was to look like a piece of vintage Harley/Mert merchandise, something you would have found at the track in 1970.  I drew Mert, sliding around the track and added some vintage race imagery.
