This year's edition of the Luftgekühlt x Ampal hat for Luft 9, was inspired by one of the most iconic G-model cars, the 1974 IROC racing series RSR and it SOLD OUT within an hour of general and show releases.

So we made another limited run of 150 in BLACK - these will go even faster.

With only 15 cars built specifically for the US race series in beautiful unique period Porsche colors, it's easy to see why Seinfeld, Roger Penske and Pablo Escobar have prized them over the years.  We set out with Patrick Long and the Luft Team to create a quality hat that looks like it would have been part of the driver's trackside livery kit.  The first edition was inspired by Chassis 0059 #4 acid blau "Acid Blue" color way.

This time we chose Chassis 0124 - Black "the Spare"... In order to maintain the level playing field, Porsche supplied 3 extra IROC RSR's as spare race cars, since racing happens. After 2 cars suffered damage in the first race, the Black car was called up for the next IROC race at Riverside and didn't look back. George Follmer started in 9th, but took the checkered flag. In the next race Mark Donohue and the black car were untouchable and easily took the win - 2 IROC starts, 2 IROC wins. After a few more victories and podiums around the US, during testing in late 1974 the Black car ended up wheels up. The drivetrain was stripped to continue racing, while the body sat badly damaged until 2007/08 when it underwent a full restoration. The unstructured snapback with embroidered felt patch, inspired by the original IROC artwork, with additional Luftgekuhlt/Ampal embroideries was designed and made in Los Angeles, CA.
